about

FJ007: A long-time contributor to experimental music in Australia, both through his own projects and the label/mail order Shame File Music, Clinton Green has spent the past while working with extended and prepared turntables. His live sets can be really fun to watch and involve him manipulating the playing mechanisms, stacking objects onto or next to the spinning vinyl to create automated percussive sounds or altering the vinyl itself in some way. Often seen and heard engaging in free improv, with Iliad he gives us a live version of his semi-composed piece 'Setting for The Iliad' that was recorded in July 2017 at West Space Gallery in Melbourne; quite different to the studio version that aired on FBI Radio show Ears Have Ears around the same time. Featuring portions of text from the Ancient Greek epic The Iliad read allowed, alongside the various pops, crackles, warps and repetitions of his experimental turntablism and occasional struck percussion, the set has a definite structure to it whilst still allowing for plenty of improvised elements. It’s a concept piece to be sure but one that is highly engaging, transportive and quite visceral too.
