about

FJ018: Kicking off 2021 with two of my own, released simultaneously. The first of those discs is Opposites End, recorded in late 2017 when I was still living in Melbourne and initially made available as a download via my own Bandcamp site in 2019 (if you don’t count the single special edition that I made for someone in 2018). The album is a companion of sorts to Submergence, released on CDr by Chemical Imbalance in 2019 and possibly even less abrasive than that one although there’s still a bit of dirt to the electric bouzouki here and there. I’d describe it as a mix of lazy late afternoon ethno-psych and moodier aquatic-sounding elements, the latter made with string preparations and/or extended (lack of) technique. Taken together, these home-recorded albums are a little different to where my live playing has gone in recent years, which is for the most part a lot noisier where the electric six-string is concerned (you can listen to some of those live sets on my Bandcamp, see link below). - Tim

PS: Submergence and Opposites End (the earlier digital version) both made Fucking Record Reviews long list for 2019. Totally surprised and super chuffed to be in there amongst a lot of really great company both here and abroad.
